Matt Mason Memorial "COWBOY UP!" Triathlon
MCC Baseball volunteered at the annual Matt Mason Memorial "Cowboy UP!" Triathalon, Sunday, July 27. The Cowboy UP Triathalon was created to honor the life and legacy of Navy SEAL and MCC alumnus Matt Mason. Mason was a Maple Woods baseball player from 1993-1995, following his time at MCC, Matt transfered to North West Missouri State University where he finished his baseball career and earned a Bachelor's of Science. Matt went on to serve with distinction as a Navy SEAL in the U.S. Armed Forces for 12 years. Tragically, he and his team lost their lives August 6, 2011, while on mission in Afghanistan.
Established in his memory, the triathlon serves as a tribute not only to Matt but to all who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The event also helps support the families and communities of fallen service members.
Each year, the MCC baseball program volunteers in support of the event, proudly remembering their fallen teammate. This year, current Wolves players Carter Belton and Zack Craft teamed up to compete in the relay. In addition, former Wolves Baseball athletes Cooper Sieflaff and Danny Wiggs participated individually.
In continued tribute, the MCC Baseball program will host its annual Matt Mason Memorial scrimmage on Veterans Day at the Maple Woods campus.
