The MCC Wolves men's basketball team won the NJCAA Region 16 Tournament on Saturday, March 4 in Jefferson City. The win gives the Wolves the opportunity to advance to the District playoff game on Saturday, March 11 in West Memphis, Arkansas.
The Wolves beat both North Central Missouri College and St. Louis Community College to earn the right to play in the Central Plains District Championship game. Keyren Spiller (6'4" sophomore) was awarded Region 16 Player of the Year. Teammate Christian Bradford (6'3" sophomore) was also selected to First Team All-Region 16, while Jacques Thomas (6'4" sophomore) and Najee Williams (6'4" sophomore) received Second Team All-Region 16 honors. Coach Marcus Harvey was recognized as Region 16 Coach of the Year.
The District playoff game opponent is Arkansas State University Mid-South, the NJCAA Region 2 Tournament Champion. The game is scheduled to tip off at 4pm. MCC and ASUMS had a common opponent in St. Louis Community College this season. ASUMS went 0-2 vs. St. Louis CC, while MCC went 2-1. ASUMS has a 22-10 record, while MCC has a record of 19-8.
The Winner of the District Championship game will advance to NJCAA Division II Nationals in Danville, Illinois. The NJCAA National Tournament includes 32 teams that will compete March 21-25.

WOLVES Fall in Central Plains District Title Game

Fresh off their Region 16 Tournament title, the Wolves were tasked with traveling to the Region 2 Champion Arkansas State University Mid-South, located in West Memphis, Arkansas. ASU-MS took the early lead in the contest, forcing MCC to battle from behind through most of the game. The Wolves cut into the double digit lead mid-way through the second half, but the rally fell short and allowed ASU-MS to claim an 83-71 victory. With the win, ASU-MS will compete in the NJCAA National Tournament in Danville, IL.
Wolves sophomore Najee Williams led all scorers in the contest with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Jacques Thomas (sophomore) had 7 boards and contributed 15 points for MCC, while Clarence Johnson IV (sophomore) provided a spark off the bench with 11 points for the Wolves.
After the game, Coach Marcus Harvey expressed how proud he was of "his guys". This year's team featured 12 sophomores, providing valuable experience in the run to the Region 16 Championship. CONGRATULATIONS to the WOLVES student-athletes and coaches for a great season!
