Wolves Dominate Opening Day at Fastpitch Dreams Classic
The Wolves headed south for spring break to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to compete in the Fastpitch Dreams Classic-and wasted no time making a statement.
On Tuesday, MCC competed in three back-to-back contests to open the week, coming away with three impressive victories, including two run-rule wins.
Game One Recap
Abbi Minton delivered a dominant performance in the opening contest, tossing a one-hit shutout to lead the Wolves past Lackawanna College.
Offensively, the Wolves backed her up with 11 hits and nine runs. Allison Shipp led the charge with three hits, while Alannah Hodges and Kaydence Enos added two hits apiece. Jada Gilliland drove in three runs to pae the offense.
Gretchen Freeman sealed the victory in dramatic fashion, delivering a two-RBI double in the fifth inning to walk it off and secure the run-rule win.
Game Two Recap
Kaydence Enos stayed hot in game two, putting together a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate to lead the Wolves to another win. Erin Stewart added two hits, while Ashton Russell and Hodges drove in two runs.
Minton once again starred in the circle, pitching all five innings. Despite allowing seven hits, she limited the damage to just one run to secure her second win of the day.
Game Three Recap
The final game of the day showcased a true team effort, as eight of the nine Wolves in the lineup recorded at least one hit.
Alexis Rusley, Stewart, and Gilliland each collected two hits, while the team racked up three triples-two from Rusley and one from Shipp.
Maddy Nickell earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete game. She allowed nine hits over seven innings but held the opposition to just three runs while striking out three.
The Wolves' strong start sets the tone for the remainder of the week as they continue competition in Myrtle Beach.
