The MCC Wolves capped off a milestone 30-win season in dramatic fashion, earning a split against region opponent Three Rivers and walking it off in Game 2 on Sophomore Day.
Game 1 Recap
Game one opened with a surge from Three Rivers, as the Raiders plated five runs in the top of the first inning. MCC responded in the second, cutting into the lead with key contributions from Allison Shipp, Alannah Hodges, and Kaydence Enos to make it 5–2.
The Raiders added another run in the fourth, but the Wolves clawed back in the fifth. Erin Stewart reached base to spark the rally, and a string of hits from Jada Gilliland, Gretchen Freeman, and Ashton Russell—along with a Hodges double—brought MCC within one run.
However, Three Rivers pulled away in the sixth with three more runs, sealing a 9–5 victory. Offensively, Gilliland, Freeman, Shipp, and Hodges each recorded two hits, while Hodges drove in two runs. Defensively, MCC turned two double plays to keep the game within reach.
Game 2 Recap
The second game told a different story, as MCC's offense came alive with 12 hits. Both teams broke through in the third inning—Three Rivers used a pair of home runs to score three, but MCC answered right back. Alexis Rusley singled, Riley Beard drew a walk, and Erin Stewart and Jade Gilliland each doubled to even the score.
The Wolves tied the game again in the fifth, capitalizing on a Raiders error and timely hits from Stewart and Freeman. With the score knotted heading into the bottom of the seventh, MCC delivered the decisive blow. Stewart singled to start the inning, Gilliland reached on a fielder's choice, and Freeman followed with a base hit. Ashton Russell then stepped up and drove a double to center field, bringing home the winning run in walk-off fashion.
Abbi Minton earned the complete-game victory, going all seven innings while allowing four hits and four runs, with two walks and one strikeout. Stewart led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, scoring twice and adding an RBI, while Gilliland drove in two runs.
Sophomore Day Celebration
Following the win, the Wolves honored their 11 sophomores: Gretchen Freeman, Kaydence Enos, Alexis Rusley, Allison Shipp, Ashton Russell, Abbi Minton, Jada Gilliland, Riley Beard, Laiken Buell, Rylie Jonas, and Dylan Kemerling.
The walk-off victory not only secured a memorable Sophomore Day but also marked the Wolves' 30th win of the season—a fitting way to close out the regular season at home.
