2021 Season Recap
Women's Basketball began 2021 with a delayed start to the schedule due to mandated quarantine protocol. The delayed start caused a cancellation of 5 contests on an already shortened season. The Wolves finished regular season play with a 5-7 record, and advanced to the championship game of Region XVI. MCC lost the championship game, however qualified to advance to District playoffs in Peoria, Illinois. The Wolves kept pace, but fell to Illinois Central College and were eliminated from the post season tournament.
The Wolves were well represented with Region XVI honors. Mackenzie Callaway and Jayla Mclemore were selected for First Team All-Region, and Brenae Rhone and Arianna Smith were selected Second Team All-Region.
Mackenzie Callaway led the team in scoring at 22.5 points per game. Kenaja Green was the second leading scorer for the Wolves, at 14.3 points per game. Mackenzie was also the team leading rebounder (8.5 per game) and assists leader (2.1 assists per game). As a result of her excellent play throughout the year, Mackenzie was honored as an NJCAA DII Second Team All-American.
Congratulations to our entire staff and team on the Wolves women's basketball 2021 season. We are proud of your efforts and accomplishments through the year, and look forward to more success in the 2021-22 season.
